Q: What exactly is AGA?
A: Briefly, AGA has been serving the government financial management profession for over 50 years As a not-for-profit educational organization, AGA serves the professional interests of financial managers from the local, state and the federal governments, as well as public accounting firms, responsible for effectively using billions of dollars and other monetary resources everyday. Members are accountants, auditors, contract, financial and performance, budget analysts, chief financial officers, information systems managers, finance directors, inspectors general, professors, students…. Membership in AGA is like tapping into a reservoir of actual real-world knowledge and experience of government financial management experts.
Q: What do I get for my dues?
A: There are a number of rewarding member benefits. For example, you receive the monthly newsletter, TOPICS, and the bimonthly journal, Journal of Government Financial Management. Other valuable benefits include: networking and job opportunities; literature on current events, professional certification and recognition, and 24 hour access to AGA's Members Only website. Membership also entitles you to significant discounts on registration fees for conferences, workshops and courses, as well as AGA periodicals and training materials.
Q: Can I be a member of two chapters at the same time?
A: Yes, you can be a member of dual chapters in AGA. Please contact our Customer Satisfaction Center at 1.800.242.7211 for additional information.
Q: I am relocating and would like to change chapters, what do I need to do?
A: Transferring chapters is not a problem. Please contact our Customer Satisfaction Center at 1.800.242.7211 and/or agamembers@agacgfm.org to request a transfer.
Q: Sometimes work prevents me from attending the luncheon. What should I do?
A: Email your ticket seller and ask if they have anyone on standby. Otherwise, you are responsible for finding someone to take your place or paying the cost of the luncheon.
Q: I am sometimes interested in the luncheon topic but do not want to eat and do not want to earn CPEs. Can I still attend?
A: No, due to capacity limitations and the contract with the Garrison, only individuals who paid for the luncheon can attend.
Q: Why are so many of the luncheon topics geared to DFAS employees?
A: While we realize we have a diverse group of members, over 85% of the luncheon attendees are Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) employees. In the past we have tried to accommodate their speaker requests. However, we are working on a more diverse group of speakers for next years luncheon series.
Q: I see that AGA is giving out a scholarship. What do I need to do to be considered for this scholarship?
A: It is open to anyone who is current taking college classes. You do not have to be an AGA member or even work for the government to be eligible. AGA Indianapolis members are notified via email where to get information to apply for this scholarship. If you are not a member and would like to be considered for this scholarship, please contact the Awards Officer.
